Let’s face it. There’s a lot of noise in the world. Social media noise. Sales & marketing noise. The noise in your head. Telling you what you need to be successful. What does success even mean? What does it mean to you?
Many Roads One Destination
The truth is there are many different ways of doing things. Strategy is the what to do. Insight is the why. Here are some insights I’ve learned:
- Hitting a home run is not the same as winning the game. There’s doing what looks right, doing what is right, then doing what’s right for you.
- Confidence and motivation are optional extras. Find a mission bigger than yourself and the doubt will take care of itself.
- What others have done should serve as inspiration. Not a step-by-step model. Do what works for you.
- Be a student, not a follower. Don’t take things at face value. Take what’s helpful and leave what isn’t behind. Learn to make up your own mind.
- Find a compass, not a map. Be guided by your mission, values and goals. A map is useless when you’re on unchartered territory.
- Don’t should all over yourself. Take away all the “‘shoulds” and the “musts.” You don’t have to do anything. What would you decide to do then? You can do what you choose to do.
- You are the expert at your own life. By all means, learn from others and listen to good advice. But learn to make your own decisions from a place of strength. Not from a place of fear, comparanoia or shiny object syndrome.

My friend Stuart and I were playing a game of pool. He’s competent, I’m anything but. Stuart was in the zone, hitting one great shot after another. Until he hit a bad shot. Followed by another one. Then another. He paused the game to compose himself. I asked him what he was focusing on when he hit the bad shots. He said he was repeating what he had done when he hit the good shots. I asked him what he was focusing on when he hit the good shots. What was he trying to copy then? Nothing. He said he was just playing the best shots he could with what was there.
And therein lies the insight. There are three paths:
- The path that looks right.
- The right path.
- The path that’s right FOR YOU.
Which path will you take?
If you’re ready to discover the path that’s right for you then let’s chat! Love, Zen.
